Mark Gurman reported that a new HomePod speaker with an "iPad-sized" display is currently in development.

In this week's latest edition of the "Powered On" newsletter, Mark Gurman reported that a new HomePod speaker with an "iPad-sized" display is currently in development. He expects it will likely be launched as early as next year if Apple decides to move forward with the final stages of production.

It's still worth noting that Apple has explored other concepts for smart home devices, including one that integrates Apple TV, HomePod, and FaceTime into a single system. However, we have yet to see more Apple products for home use besides the Apple TV and HomePod. One of the latest tvOS 17.4 betas reveals references to an unreleased HomePod model with a built-in display whose hardware is based on the latest Apple TV hardware with the A15 Bionic chip.

Therefore, it would be optimized to run tvOS. If these rumors turn out to be true, a HomePod with a built-in display could add a new level of functionality to Apple's smart home ecosystem. With its iPad-sized display, users can potentially view and interact with information, music and even video content directly on the speaker.

Furthermore, the integration with Apple TV and FaceTime can allow users to view and answer video calls directly on the HomePod, adding an extra dimension to its usefulness in the home. While it's too early to say exactly what this new HomePod will offer, its potential promises to make it an exciting addition to Apple's product line and the smart home market.
