Cyberpunk 2077 gets FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) support
Cyberpunk 2077 will get the long-awaited FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) support, developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed. Speaking to IGN, the developer confirmed that FSR3 - the latest iteration of AMD's supersampling technology, which boosts the frame rate in games - is still in the works, although the team behind Cyberpunk 2077 has been transferred to other projects.
"We're still working on FSR3 support for Cyberpunk 2077, but I don't have an update on availability right now," a CD Projekt Red spokesperson told IGN.
Fans have been worried whether the promised update would ever arrive after the developer informed investors that the Cyberpunk 2077 team had been moved to other projects following the release of version 2.12. "AMD's FSR3 was supposed to be added to Cyberpunk 2077, but it seems like it has been canceled since there are no developers working on Cyberpunk 2077," commented a Reddit user in a thread discussing the change in the development team.
However, some internet sleuths spotted a change in the game's backend on PC platform Steam, suggesting another update may be on the way. "I'm not sure if they decided to drop the FSR3 update or not, but I have a feeling there will be a (small) final update since the internal QA branch updated six hours ago for the first time since the last update was released," Apoqsi wrote on X/Twitter. This appears to be the case, although the update is only coming to the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077.
FSR3 has also been added to games like Immortals of Aveum and Starfield, allowing PC gamers to get the most out of their high-end rigs. CD Projekt Red has scaled back development of Cyberpunk 2077 following the release of the first and only expansion pack, Phantom Liberty, in September 2023. This followed the extensive Update 2.0 that completely transformed Cyberpunk 2077 with new features such as a new perk system and improved AI , followed by another major update in 2.1, but only minor changes after that. Patch 2.11 fixed a number of bugs and balance issues in the open world RPG, while 2.12 applied what was believed to be a final polish.
CD Projekt Red is now looking ahead to Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, codenamed Orion, as well as the many upcoming Witcher games. However, the FSR3 update will be released at some point.
