Fatshark has announced that the long-awaited Versus Mode for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has now been released as open beta.

Versus was first announced back in 2019 and is now finally available in a beta. It's a 4v4 PVP+E game mode where teams take turns playing as Ubersreik Five and Pactsworn. Each member of the Ubersreik Five has highly customizable builds, allowing players to pursue their unique playstyles.

Pactsworn will be able to utilize the full arsenal of Skaven special classes, meaning you can play as a Ratling Gunner, Packmaster, Gas Rat, etc. It will be interesting to see how the meta evolves and which specials end up being the most powerful .


4v4 Vermintide Action

The mode itself is kind of a simplified version of PvE in Vermintide 2 . The Ubersreik Five have objectives to complete and the Pactsworn team must stop them. According to the beta announcement trailer released by Fatshark, regular Vermintide 2 maps have been changed to make them more suitable for PvP play.

A closed alpha for Versus Mode was held earlier this year, and one of the common balance criticisms that came up was how difficult it was to deal damage to Ubersreik Five, which naturally tends to favor ranged characters as melee -characters are more vulnerable to Pactsworn attacks.

There were also complaints that regular AI-controlled hordes were on the 'Recruit' difficulty, making it very easy for the team playing as Ubersreik Five to keep themselves from being overwhelmed.

Fatshark has published a blog post detailing some of the changes the team has made in the meantime. Pactsworn players can now summon their own mini-hordes to cover their advances, adding some strategy to the flow of the game. Health supplies have also been placed in more visible and vulnerable locations, allowing the Pactsworn to potentially set up ambushes to catch wounded heroes off guard.
