More Activision games for Game Pass but without CoD

More Activision games are finally coming to Xbox's Game Pass, nearly a year after Microsoft bought the Call of Duty publisher. Look forward to more free games!

In January 2023, Xbox announced its plans to buy Activision Blizzard King for a total of $69 billion, the largest acquisition in the history of the video game industry. It took almost a year of legal proceedings and hearings around the world before Microsoft could officially merge the publisher on October 13, 2023.

Now that the deal is complete, Xbox owns a lot of franchises and games, including Call of Duty, Warcraft, and Candy Crush. But so far, eight months after the deal closed, only one Activision game, Diablo IV, has made it to Game Pass.

But it looks like more are finally on the way. While we're not a fan of the video game industry 'cannibalizing' itself, often leading to less competition and more redundancies, it would at least be nice to get some free games out of it. So it's nice to see that finally, after almost a year, there will be more Activision titles beyond Diablo IV on Game Pass.

The big question I have is: When will Xbox bring all the Call of Duty games to Game Pass? The majority of the franchise is already playable on Xbox Series X|S if you own the games, so it's just a matter of Microsoft pushing the button and making those games available to subscribers.

We can assume that as we get closer to the launch of Black Ops 6 on October 25th, a game that will be available from day one on Game Pass, we'll start to see some older CoDs come to the service.

So far, though, it seems like Xbox is taking its time getting the Activision catalog on Game Pass. This is a big change from how it handled Bethesda's game library after acquiring the Fallout publisher in 2021. Here, Microsoft couldn't wait to get Bethesda's games on the platform. They were on Game Pass so fast it made people lose their minds, and that makes the lack of similar speed around its newly acquired Activision gear all the more puzzling.
