Microsoft has released an in-engine story trailer for Obsidian's upcoming first-person RPG, Avowed. Avowed will be released on PC in 2024 and will be powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Avowed will be a fully open-world game. According to the developers, the game's map will be "closer" and "more contrasted" than that of Skyrim. In addition, the game will have real-time weather and a very advanced character creation tool.

In addition, Avowed will have a strong focus on the world's reactivity. Not only that, but it will also have advanced lighting as well as next-gen AI systems and physics.

What's also great, at least for PC gamers, is that the game will support mods. Whether PC modders will embrace it, time will tell. There is no doubt that there is a lot of potential here. Or at least we think so.

Obsidian showed an in-depth look at Avowed's gameplay during the Xbox Developer Direct event in January. Additional details that emerged after this gameplay review include confirmation that Avowed will be faithful to previous Obsidian projects and include multiple endings, encouraging replayability, as well as confirmation that romantic relationships will not be possible with your companions.

Avowed is a first-person RPG from the creators of Outer Worlds and Fallout New Vegas, and Obsidian owner Microsoft is publishing it. It takes place in the same universe as one of Obsidian's other games, Pillars of Eternity, and as an Xbox Games Studio title, it launches day one on the Game Pass subscription service.

While no firm release date came from today's preview, there are rumors that Avowed may be aiming for a November 2024 release date.
