Audio-Technica has introduced the ATH-AL5NC, marking the brand’s first wireless headphones with an open design. Following the success of the R-Series for music production and the recently expanded ADX-Series for audiophiles, the ATH-AL5NC completes the range by combining the natural and airy reproduction of an open design with the freedom of wireless. The model is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts, home workers, gamers and everyday users.

Acoustics, comfort and 53mm drivers

The soundstage is created by specially designed 53mm dynamic drivers that deliver pure and detailed precision. The open design significantly improves airflow, effectively reducing heat build-up around the ears during prolonged use.

Weighing in at just 240 grams , the headphones are designed to be worn comfortably all day long. The sound quality supports high-resolution audio (24-bit/96kHz) with support for LDAC, AAC and SBC codecs .

Impressive battery life and wired flexibility

Wirelessly, the ATH-AL5NC delivers up to 75 hours of continuous playback on a single charge (or up to 50 hours with noise cancellation on). Should the battery run out, just 15 minutes of quick charging provides up to 8 hours of playback (5 hours with noise cancellation).

If charging is not possible, users can switch to a wired connection via the included 1.2-meter cable , which features a standard 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack plug as well as a built-in microphone and controls. A built-in microphone in the headset itself also handles wireless calls and spontaneous online meetings.

Active noise reduction and sound leakage control

Uniquely for a pair of open wireless headphones, the ATH-AL5NC is equipped with active noise cancellation that can be easily activated via a physical button on the right earcup:

Noise reduction (ANC): Effectively reduces interference from air conditioning, traffic and background noise in the room. The noise reduction can be used wirelessly as well as via the included audio cable.

Sound leakage reduction: Via the AT Connect app, you can enable a special mode that reduces the amount of sound that escapes from the ear cups. This makes it easier to use the headphones in shared spaces without disturbing your surroundings (note, however, that the soundstage changes in this mode, and that leakage at very high volumes cannot be completely avoided in an open design).

AT Connect app, multipoint and gaming

The headphones support multipoint connectivity , which allows them to be connected to two Bluetooth devices at the same time (e.g. a laptop and a smartphone). The AT Connect app also gives the user access to a number of additional tools:

Low-latency mode: Reduces audio lag during gaming and video viewing to keep audio and video perfectly synchronized.

Soundscape function: Offers playback of soothing nature sounds to promote concentration or relaxation.

Equalizer (EQ): Allows for personal adjustment of the frequency response.
