Apple's "It's Glowtime" event has just ended. While the iPhone 16 was the main attraction at today's presentation, Apple had several other announcements to share, including some exciting new additions to its smartwatch and AirPods lineups.

iPhone 16 adds two new buttons

In addition to inheriting the iPhone 15 Pro's Action Button, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are now equipped with a handy new DSLR-like button that you can use to take photos and record videos, as well as adjust settings. They also have rear cameras stacked on top of each other that support spatial video recording for viewing on Apple Vision Pro.

iPhone 16 Pro has bigger screens and better cameras

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max come with slightly larger screens, with the base model Pro having a 6.3-inch screen (instead of 6.1 inches), while the Pro Max has a 6.9-inch screen (instead of 6, 7 inches).

Unlike last year's model, both phones — not just the Pro Max — get the same 5x telephoto camera with a "tetraprism" design, along with an upgraded 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor and 48MP "Fusion camera." Pro-level iPhones are available in gold, black, white, and "natural" titanium (grey).

Apple is adopting the Wi-Fi 7 standard for all iPhone 16 models

Apple has always been slow to support the latest wireless standards, but with the launch of the iPhone 16, the company has decided to take the plunge and adopt Wi-Fi 7. In fact, every single model announced during the "It's Glowtime" event supports , the new technology, which brings with it a number of improvements and advantages.

The international Wi-Fi Alliance consortium presented the Wi-Fi 7 standard earlier this year, and it didn't take long for the iPhone 16 models to adopt it. Last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were limited to Wi-Fi 6, while the more premium iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max supported Wi-Fi 6E. As well as giving all iPhone 16 models an upgrade to 8GB of RAM, Apple has also standardized Wi-Fi 7 across the range, but it's not just a name change as there are significant benefits to using the latest wireless technology.

First, you can expect impressive performance, as Wi-Fi 7 can reach speeds of 46 Gbps, while Wi-Fi 6E is limited to 9.6 Gbps. This makes the newer standard five times faster, but it's not just the massive performance improvement that's worth looking forward to, but also the stability. Wi-Fi 7 operates on the 320 MHz channels, and combined with the 6 GHz band, users can experience a stable wireless experience without interference and delay. This feature alone makes the new iPhone 16 models excellent for streaming.

The bandwidth upgrade will allow users to experience lower latency when using Apple Vision Pro to mirror the iPhone 16 and stream through it, which is another improvement. However, it should be noted that if you want to experience such speeds, it is necessary to switch to a Wi-Fi 7 router, which can be an expensive solution.

Every iPhone 16 model is now equipped with 8 GB of RAM

Apple has been reported several times to introduce an upgrade to 8 GB of RAM for all iPhone 16 models, but there was always a risk that the company would surprise the audience negatively. Fortunately, that was not the case here, as information revealed in the latest version of Apple's developer tool Xcode 16 confirmed the amount of RAM in the four models. This means that customers now do not have to pay a higher price if a RAM upgrade was a top priority at the time of purchase.

With the help of @iSWUpdates, MacRumors discovered that even the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will now ship with an additional 2GB of RAM compared to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Unfortunately, those hoping for a RAM upgrade in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be disappointed. But if you've already decided to pre-order based on the amount of RAM you'll get with Apple's latest iPhones, it's better to wait another year, as the iPhone 17 is rumored to get 12GB of RAM.

This massive spec upgrade should open up a lot of possibilities, especially for running advanced Apple Intelligence features and giving game developers a bit more room to stuff higher end textures into AAA titles. Apple likely made the decision to standardize the amount of RAM on each iPhone 16 model so that cloud-based and on-device generative AI functions can run comfortably across the range.

iPhone 16 gets Visual Intelligence

All iPhone 16 models are ready for Apple Intelligence — the new AI features that Apple is launching in beta next month, first in English. These features include the ability to search for images in your library by describing them and creating custom emoji.

Apple has also equipped the iPhone 16's camera control button with a new feature called Visual Intelligence, which automatically searches for things you're taking pictures of. You can also use it to perform actions such as taking a photo of a concert poster and easily adding it to your calendar. Basically, it's Google Lens, but run through the Apple machine.

Watch Series 10 comes with a larger screen and thinner profile

The Apple Watch Series 10 has the thinnest profile ever, along with a larger wide-angle OLED display that Apple says is up to 40 percent brighter when viewed from an angle. It is also able to detect signs of sleep apnea by measuring breathing disturbances while you sleep. The new watch also has a built-in depth and water temperature sensor.

The new device comes in a polished black aluminum finish, with matte rose gold and silver options, or a polished titanium finish, which Apple says is 20 percent lighter than the Series 9.

The Apple Watch Ultra comes in a new satin black finish

The Watch Ultra didn't get any major updates during this event, but Apple announced a sleek satin black finish as well as a titanium Milanese Loop band that Apple says is "made from corrosion-resistant titanium and designed for diving."

The next generation of AirPods will have better sound and active noise reduction

Apple has finally unveiled the AirPods 4, which come with a new H4 chip that enables better sound quality. With an open-ear design, Apple says the new earbuds are the "most comfortable AirPods" ever. They also have useful features like voice isolation and transparency mode.

They have a smaller USB-C compatible charging case with a speaker that allows them to make a sound if you try to find them with the Find My app. Apple is also bringing active noise cancellation to the next generation of AirPods, but they are more expensive.

The cheaper AirPods model costs $129, while the version with ANC costs $179. Both will start shipping on September 20.

AirPods Pro 2 will soon become a hearing aid

Later this year, Apple will make the AirPods Pro 2 available as an over-the-counter hearing aid. Apple is launching a few other hearing-focused features on the AirPods Pro 2, including a feature designed to protect hearing and a clinical hearing test.

These features will be available in a free software update in more than 100 countries and regions this fall.

AirPods Max also have USB-C charging

Apple also had a small update to their over-ear AirPods Max. The device is now offered in some new colors and the Lightning charging port has been replaced with USB-C.
