Google Meet has introduced an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) tool called "Take notes for me". This feature, powered by Gemini AI, is designed to generate summaries of important points during video calls.
Instead of providing a verbatim transcript, it focuses on recording significant discussion points in a Google Doc. The generated document will be saved in the meeting host's Google Drive and can be automatically shared with participants or added to the calendar event after the meeting. The document can also contain links to the meeting recording and transcription if these settings are activated.
The new note-taking tool will first be available to Google Workspace customers who have Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, and the AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons. Currently, its use is limited to English language and can only be used on computers or laptops.
The "take notes for me" function also offers a summary of missed discussions for those who join the meeting later, thus minimizing the need for repetition. This also serves as an accessibility tool for people who have difficulty processing spoken language and taking notes simultaneously, allowing them to be more engaged in meetings without requesting repeats.
This functionality was first announced at Google's Cloud Next conference in 2023. With the "Take Notes for Me" tool, Google Meet once again proves its commitment to improving the meeting experience using AI.
