Procedure

The test is set up so that we first warm up the system with Cinebench for 5 minutes. Then it runs for 10 minutes where we measure the average temperature in HWiNFO64. We then finally subtract the room temperature at the given time and land on a delta temperature to give as neutral a picture as possible. The fans are set to run at full speed, so you get a picture of the maximum cooling performance with the load we now give it. This should give a real picture of how much you can strain the different coolers, and whether they can take more or less than what we give them.

**After following up a bit on the I9 12900K and heat generation, I have chosen to turn off Hyper-Threading to give the cooler a chance to show what it can do, rather than pushing the CPU to its maximum. All future tests will run like this.

The be quiet! Pure Rock Pro 3 performs impressively with a delta temperature of just 4 degrees at idle, placing it among the best air coolers in the test. It matches both the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 and Dark Elite Pro, which also achieve a delta temperature of 4 degrees. Only the Noctua NH-D15 G2 HBC and the Cooler Master MasterAir MA824 Stealth perform marginally better at 3 degrees. The cooler outperforms several competitors, such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Halo Black and the Arctic Freezer i35 A-RGB, which have significantly higher temperatures. This result shows that the Pure Rock Pro 3 delivers very efficient cooling even at idle, which is evidence of strong thermal performance.

The be quiet! Pure Rock Pro 3 achieves a delta temperature of 59 degrees under load, which places it at the top end of the test. It matches the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 and Dark Elite Pro, confirming its strong cooling performance. Only the Noctua NH-D15 G2 HBC (53 degrees) and the Cooler Master MasterAir MA824 Stealth (54 degrees) perform better. Compared to competitors such as the Arctic Freezer 36 A-RGB White (61 degrees) and the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Halo Black (74 degrees), the Pure Rock Pro 3 demonstrates very effective heat dissipation. This result shows that the cooler delivers high performance for demanding workloads while maintaining a stable temperature.

Noise level

Our noise measurements were made with a UNI-T UT353 dB meter. The measurements were made in a “real world” setup and not in a sound chamber. External influences have of course been tried to be reduced as much as possible but, as mentioned, were not made in a sound chamber. Our measurements should therefore be taken as a general indicator and not a scientific measurement. They primarily serve as a basis for comparison across tested products, which are always tested under as comparable conditions as possible.

The be quiet! Pure Rock Pro 3 achieves a noise level of 39 dBA, which places it in the middle of the test. It is slightly quieter than the Noctua NH-D15 G2 HBC, which measures 43.1 dBA, but slightly louder than the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 at 36.3 dBA. The cooler is close to the be quiet! Dark Elite Pro, which has 39.4 dBA, and is only marginally louder than other compact coolers such as the Noctua NH-D9L Chromax.Black and NH-L9X65. The result shows that the Pure Rock Pro 3 manages to balance cooling efficiency and noise level well, but it could be even quieter compared to some premium models.
