It is now almost exactly a year since EA revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be ported to last generation consoles. Today, the publisher has finally given a release date for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions: September 17, 2024.
The original announcement came from Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson during the company's Q1 quarterly call in 2023: "Thanks to the strength of this legendary franchise and the demand of the community, our development team is committed to bringing this Jedi experience to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”
Before that, the developer, Respawn Entertainment, had said that the game skipping last-gen platforms allowed them to create more detailed gameplay systems, environments and visual effects. As expected, these upgrades were attributed to the better hardware in today's consoles.
Today's announcement came via a social media post, and contains no details about the changes gamers can expect to see on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 compared to the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 platforms. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor also didn't have the best launch on PC, with even state-of-the-art hardware having trouble running the game.
Of course, it seems like Respawn, or a third party porting studio, has worked their magic on the game and made it run passably on the last gen consoles. The developer says that the port will "include a number of optimizations aimed at maximizing the consoles' hardware capabilities. "
However, PC players get a treat before that. An update with "improvements to the game's technical performance, controls and more, plus a number of quality of life improvements," is coming in the coming weeks, according to Respawn. Expect details soon.
