Developed by veterans of the original music game era alongside creators from the rhythm game community, the game combines classic 5-button gameplay with modern features like local/online co-op for up to four players, cross-play, online leaderboards, 50 band members (with over 150 unlockable combinations), and a brand new roguelite-inspired single-player mode called Tour Mode .

The game can be played across four seats in any combination of dedicated Guitar Controllers, Drum Controllers, Microphones, standard Gamepads, and Mouse & Keyboard. The game features custom "note charts" for all input methods, including regular controllers.

In addition to Quickplay, Practice and a relaxed Karaoke mode, the game features the precision Judgements feature as well as over 180 authentic in-game guitars from Gibson, Epiphone and Kramer.

The collection uses new mechanical frets, Hall Effect click bands (strum bar), dynamic LED lighting in the neck, and a streamlined button layout, where system and navigation buttons have been moved down above the strum bar for easy access.
