Game developer CD Projekt RED has announced a comprehensive new remastered version of the critically acclaimed role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The update will be completely free for all existing owners of the Complete Edition and introduces full real-time Path Tracing to PC, among other features.

Next-generation graphics and Path Tracing

The new edition brings a number of heavy graphical upgrades to the PC platform to deliver a visual level that matches the original trailers from before the game's release:

  • Upscaling & Ray Reconstruction: The game will support NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4.0, and Intel XeSS 2.0. It will also make use of DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction to improve the quality of ray tracing.
  • Exclusive Path Tracing: The PC version gets exclusive access to real-time Path Tracing , which takes lighting and shadowing to a whole new level.
  • Improvements for all graphics cards: Owners of less powerful GPUs will also get a significant visual boost. The developers have updated a wide range of textures, reworked the game's Global Illumination , improved the regular Ray Tracing and GTAO, added a new Shading Model and an improved Tone Mapper . In addition, the animations in the game have been fine-tuned.


Improved combat system, movement, and AI

It's not just the visuals that are getting an overhaul. CD Projekt RED has also tinkered with the gameplay mechanics themselves to create a more dynamic experience:

  • New Skill Tree: Players will have access to a brand new skill tree for customizing Geralt.
  • Better control: The systems for movement, 'traversal' and handling the horse (Roach) have been drastically improved.
  • Challenging Monsters: Beast behavior and AI have been upgraded, making battles against monsters more challenging and tactical.
