The launch of the Valve Steam Deck showed that there was a market for PC gaming on the go and now MSI has entered that market with their Claw which they have presented at CES in Las Vegas.

At CES, MSI unveiled their new handheld gaming device, "The Claw", which, with new hardware, will help push the limits of handheld gaming. The Claw is powered by an Intel Core Ultra processor, which in combination with the use of Intel's XeSS technology.

It is therefore the first mainstream handheld gaming device of this type that chooses to go with Intel based hardware. Both Valve Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally are AMD based. Time will tell whether Intel's graphics solution can handle the task, but it is typically not an area where Intel excels. However, the development of Intel's Arc graphics solutions could end up making all the difference.

The Claw is equipped with MSI's Cooler Boost Hyperflow technology, which more efficiently directs the cooling air to the internal components, which should result in better cooling and higher performance.

With the largest battery in the class, which has a capacity of 53Whr, there is the potential to get more gaming time out of the Claw than the other offers on the market. According to MSI, even at full load there will be enough battery for two hours of use.

However, MSI has not only thought of the hardware and the physical design of the Claw, but has also thought of the software implementation as part of the overall design. That's why it makes use of MSI Center M, a brand new UI design designed from the ground up to be user-friendly, easy to maneuver around, and generally serves as the easiest possible approach to games and features.

At the same time, the control system is designed so that installation and updating of new as well as old games takes place smoothly, while the start-up of installed games takes place in the shortest possible time. The devices shown at CES run Windows 11, which means you should have access to your normal library of games from the various services you may use.
