Lenovo presented at MWC this year a large number of new devices with AI in focus. It's the current buzzword, so Lenovo is naturally there too. On a more practical front, Lenovo has also talked about the steps they have taken to minimize the CO2 footprint of their devices. This happens, among other things, in collaboration with the iFixit team.

Lenovo has just unveiled its latest portfolio of AI devices along with software and infrastructure solutions at the recent MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2024. In addition to innovation, Lenovo also showcased prototypes of devices that redefine the boundaries of traditional form factors. Lenovo also revealed the future of hybrid AI that drives multi-device, software and service delivery for more personalization, collaboration and efficiency.

"Lenovo's suite of AI-enabled, AI-ready and AI-optimized devices, infrastructures, solutions and services at MWC provides a broader insight into our vision of 'AI for All,'" said Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang. "Lenovo's AI technology benefits organizations of all sizes and drives intelligent transformation across all industries, while reaffirming our commitment to sustainability."

One of the prominent prototypes presented by Lenovo is the Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept. This concept aims to revolutionize the interaction and creation experience with its rather special 17.3-inch Micro-LED transparent screen. With a screenless design, transparent keyboard plate and a seemingly fluid design, it exudes a simplicity that elevates the user experience.

The focus of this laptop lies in its intelligent integration of the virtual and the real. Through AI generated content (AIGC), the transparent screen opens up new opportunities for work collaboration and efficiency by enabling interaction with physical objects and overlaying digital information to create user-generated content.

The transparency allows it to integrate naturally into its surroundings in a seamless manner. Users can freely and fluidly switch between the keyboard and the drawing board with a supported pen, opening new levels of creative efficiency. AI in combination with transparent displays will open up new ways of engaging with data and applications, offering opportunities to develop new features and form factors. This prototype provides a futuristic perspective on AI computing that blends digital and physical environments.

Lenovo is also expanding the company's partnership with iFixit, which allows IT managers to easily and quickly repair devices, minimizing downtime and extending the life of hardware. The ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 are designed with input from the iFixit Solutions team to be more repairable, which not only involves replacing customer serviceable parts (CRU), such as the battery with a cable-free connection and a fully socketed DIMM design, as well SSD and WWAN replacement, but also the addition of visual indicators for easier repairs.

With support from the iFixit team, Lenovo has created new repair guides, including video instructions for all CRU parts, as well as making it easier to order these parts. This extends product life, reduces electronic waste and offers cost-saving benefits to businesses and individuals. As a result of these improvements, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 have achieved a provisional iFixit repairability score of 9.3 out of 10.
