Signify has announced a comprehensive range of innovations for the Philips Hue ecosystem, including advanced AI software, new entertainment solutions for TV screens, a significant hardware partnership with Nanoleaf, and a full line of new lighting fixtures for indoor and outdoor use.
According to Marco Merolla, Business Leader for consumer connected lighting at Signify, the new initiatives are about giving users greater freedom to create personal settings in their homes. The goal is to make smart lighting more intuitive, more engaging and seamlessly integrated into everyday life.
Artificial intelligence, backup and Sonos control
On the software front, Philips Hue is introducing several significant features that should make it easier to build and control complicated lighting setups in the app without manually setting up all individual elements:
Custom AI Behaviors: For users of the new Hue Bridge Pro, an AI assistant is introduced that can create advanced automations based on common spoken or written instructions in everyday language. The user can simply describe their wishes – such as having switches and sensors react differently on weekends, having a specific scene activated when it gets dark regardless of the time of day, or having the lights automatically change mood when the entertainment system starts to sync. The AI assistant then combines all the triggers, conditions and lighting actions itself.
Back-up & Restore: In response to long-standing user demand, it will be possible to back up your entire Hue setup (including rooms, zones, scenes and automations) to the Hue Cloud. The feature applies to both Philips Hue Bridge and Bridge Pro, while the restore itself will initially be available to Bridge Pro users.
Sonos Integration: A new integration allows you to control your home audio experience directly from select Hue switches, such as the Tap dial switch. The buttons can be assigned to Sonos favorites, and can be used to play, pause, adjust volume, and skip tracks without opening an app.
New entertainment: Screen sync and Nanoleaf collaboration
Signify expands the possibilities to synchronize lighting with movies, series, games and music, regardless of the display or source used:
Philips Hue Play Screen sync: A new plug-and-play solution that uses an auto-calibrating fisheye lens to scan the entire TV screen in real time. The system works independently of the signal source and responds directly to content from both Smart TV apps, traditional TV signals and HDMI devices.
Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K: A sleek and more accessible HDMI sync box tailored for simpler configurations in 4K resolution.
Use without Hue Bridge: As a brand new feature, you can now sync a Philips Hue Play gradient TV LED strip directly with an HDMI sync box 4K or Play Screen sync via Bluetooth without owning a Hue Bridge. If you want a full surround experience with up to 10 lights, a Bridge or Bridge Pro is still required.
New gradient LED strips: An updated generation of Play gradient LED strip and Play gradient LED strip pro offers greater flexibility as they can now be shortened for specific installations. The series also includes, for the first time, a model designed for TV screens up to 100 inches.
Partnership with Nanoleaf: Through the new Hue Wall light module (sold separately), compatible Nanoleaf Shapes (Hexagons, Triangles and Mini Triangles) become an integral part of the Hue ecosystem, allowing the panels to be directly integrated into Hue scenes, automations and entertainment setups.
Design lighting and outdoor news
The series of decorative luminaires is expanded with new materials and form factors for both indoor and garden decor:
Philips Hue Liane 360° LED strip: Uses advanced optics and OmniGlow technology to create a uniform and soft color gradient all the way around the flexible light source. It can be guided along walls, furniture and architectural elements.
The Signe family is expanding: The architecturally inspired Signe collection is being expanded with three new sculptural models: Signe pendant , Signe pendulum and Signe pole , which deliver soft, graduated light from ultra-slim profiles.
Festavia and outdoor lighting: For outdoor use, the Festavia series is expanded with a light curtain, a light net and an icicle light chain for year-round use. In addition, a new outdoor OmniGlow LED strip has been launched, as well as a number of more affordable wall lamps and spotlights under the names Semeru , Scenova , Muscari and Struana .
