SanDisk launches new generation of portable SSD drives

SanDisk’s latest generation of external SSD drives achieve up to twice the speed of previous models, while maintaining a compact, pocket-sized form factor that’s easy to take anywhere. Heidi Arkinstall, vice president of consumer marketing at SanDisk, said of the launch:

Three-part series adapted to different needs

The new product family covers three different performance levels, tailored for everything from everyday backup to heavy-duty, professional video editing environments:

• SANDISK® Portable SSD: Designed for students, office workers, and general personal data archiving, the drive delivers read speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s and is designed as a reliable and portable storage solution for everyday use. It is available in capacities from 500 GB to 2 TB.
• SANDISK Extreme® Portable SSD: Targeted at photo and video enthusiasts and creative users who handle large amounts of data and need fast transfer speeds for active workflows. The drive delivers read speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s, which, among other things, allows you to transfer 1,000 high-resolution photos in under 60 seconds. The model is offered in sizes from 500 GB to 4 TB.
• SANDISK Extreme PRO® Portable SSD: The top-of-the-line model is designed specifically for professional photographers, filmmakers and graphic designers who work with demanding workflows with multiple data streams and real-time editing. With transfer speeds of up to 4,000 MB/s, the drive can move almost 10 minutes of heavy 12K video footage in under a minute. The device is available in capacities from 2TB to 4TB (with an 8TB version expected later).

Susan Park, vice president of consumer products at SanDisk, highlights the need for the significant speed increase in the new generation:

“As photo and video resolutions continue to increase and AI-generated content becomes more prevalent, users of all levels are faced with handling ever-increasing amounts of data across a wider range of devices and environments. Our latest line of portable SSDs are nearly twice as fast as before and feature a purpose-built, pocket-sized design, enabling you to transfer huge files in record time, keeping your creativity flowing without a hitch.”

Robust construction, safety and warranty

Since the products are intended for use in the field and in changing working conditions, SanDisk has equipped the entire series with protective elements. The SANDISK Portable SSD has built-in drop protection of up to two meters. The more rugged Extreme and Extreme PRO models can withstand drops from up to three meters and are also protected against liquid spills and dust via an IP65 certification.

To protect sensitive data and projects in transit, both SANDISK Extreme and Extreme PRO support password protection via 256-bit AES hardware encryption. Both series are backed by a five-year limited warranty.

The new SanDisk portable SSD portfolio is available in the Nordic market now and can be ordered with suggested prices starting from DKK 1,099.00.
