It wasn't just new hardware that Nvidia brought to CES. Along with the new RTX 50 series, DLSS4 is also coming, which together with the new hardware can help push even more massive gaming performance to users.

NVIDIA has introduced its DLSS 4 upscaling technology, which provides an 8x performance improvement on RTX 50 GPUs with the Multi-Frame Generation feature.

NVIDIA DLSS 4 is 8x Faster than DLSS 3 – Multi-Frame Generation on RTX 50 Series with Improved Upscaling Quality on RTX 20 and Above

Press Release: At CES 2025, NVIDIA has once again advanced DLSS with the introduction of DLSS 4. The technology, which includes Multi-Frame Generation for GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards and laptops, will be supported in 75 games and applications at launch.

DLSS Multi-Frame Generation generates up to three additional frames for every traditionally rendered frame. This feature works with the entire DLSS technology suite to multiply frame rates by up to 8x over traditional rendering. This massive performance boost on GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards enables stunning 4K 240 FPS gaming with full ray tracing.

On the GeForce RTX 5090, DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation enables performance that is over 8x higher than traditional rendering in a Cyberpunk 2077 scene, while halving latency for more responsive gameplay and improved image quality.

DLSS 4 also introduces the biggest upgrade to its AI models since the launch of DLSS 2.0 in 2020. DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS Super Resolution, and DLAA are now powered by the graphics industry’s first real-time implementation of transformer technology, which also powers advanced AI models like ChatGPT, Flux, and Gemini. Transformer models improve image quality with better temporal stability, reduced ghosting, and higher levels of motion detail.

Multi-Frame Generation: Multiply Performance with GeForce RTX 50-Series GPUs
DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation combines innovations in both Blackwell hardware and DLSS software. The new AI model for frame generation is 40% faster, uses 30% less VRAM, and only needs to run once per rendered frame to generate multiple frames.

For example, in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the model provided a 10% higher frame rate and used 400MB less memory at 4K, max settings with DLSS Frame Generation enabled.

New Transformer Model – Image Quality Improvements for All GeForce RTX Users
DLSS 4 introduces a transformer model that uses vision transformer technology to assess the importance of each pixel across the entire image and across multiple frames. This model offers greater stability, reduced ghosting, and higher levels of motion detail.

In games like Alan Wake 2, the new Ray Reconstruction model significantly improves the level of detail in complex lighting conditions, providing a more immersive experience.

75 Games and Applications with Multi-Frame Generation From Day 0
When GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards launch, gamers will be able to experience DLSS Multi-Frame Generation in 75 games and applications. All GeForce RTX users will be able to take advantage of Transformer-based DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS Super Resolution, and DLAA in over 50 games and applications.

Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Star Wars Outlaws will be updated with native support for DLSS Multi-Frame Generation, with other titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 following shortly.

The DLSS Override feature in the NVIDIA app will also enable improvements in games that have not yet updated to the latest DLSS models.

NVIDIA DLSS 4: The Best Technology Gets Even Better
DLSS has revolutionized gaming with continuous AI improvements that increase performance, improve image quality, and push the boundaries of ray tracing. With the launch of DLSS 4 alongside GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs, all GeForce RTX users will receive new upgrades that make their games and applications even better.
