If you are curious about what 3D Print can be used for in addition to hobby projects at home, then you just have to look in the direction of Melbourne in Australia. In the historic Luna Park amusement park, their Ghost Train haunted house has undergone a renovation, on the occasion of its 90th anniversary, and in this connection a lot of 3D printing has been used.

The Ghost Train ride at Luna Park Melbourne is one of the world's oldest operating "dark rides" and has just undergone a refurbishment to celebrate its 90th anniversary. The renovation, led by Edward Felix and his creative team, honors the history of this heritage-listed attraction while embracing cutting-edge technology, with 3D printing playing a key role in the project's success.

Originally built in 1934 by the Pretzel Amusement Ride Company, the Ghost Train at Luna Park is a unique piece of amusement history. As the last remaining ride of its kind in the southern hemisphere, this iconic attraction has entertained generations of visitors. For this anniversary, Luna Park Melbourne collaborated with Edward Felix, who reimagined the ride while retaining its timeless charm.

Revitalizing the Ghost Train was a rare opportunity to honor a historic treasure while bringing new life,” said Edward Felix. “We wanted to stay true to the ride's roots while ensuring it remains an exciting experience for guests of all ages. Thanks to Bambu Labs 3D printing technology, we were able to achieve a level of detail and customization that would have been unimaginable when the ride first opened.”

Bambu Lab's advanced 3D printers were essential throughout the project. Every element, from ornate light fixtures to complex stage details, was created with precision. Ghost Train's redesigned lighting system, custom-made decorations and refurbished stages were all produced using 3D printing technology, ensuring that the ride not only retains its vintage look, but also benefits from modern efficiency and durability.

“By using Bambu Lab 3D printers, we were able to create a whole new set of experiences for the ride, while ensuring that all parts were easy to maintain and replace,” said Felix. “The printers worked tirelessly, producing everything from custom-made book spines in the new library scene to realistic candlesticks and even structural elements hidden from view. We couldn't have done it without them.”

Nathan, CEO of Luna Park Melbourne, expressed his excitement about the refurbished Ghost Train, which now pays tribute to the park's resident ghost, The White Lady. “This renovation is more than just an update – it's a celebration of Luna Park's rich history and a commitment to keeping that history alive in a way that modern audiences can appreciate. We are thrilled to have worked with Edward and his team on this project.”

The rethemed Ghost Train ride is now open to the public and offers a blend of nostalgia and innovation that Luna Park visitors will not want to miss.
