Intel is canceling their innovation event for this year. "Hard decisions" have to be made to get the company back on track. New products such as Arrow Lake CPUs may be further delayed.

Intel usually holds its annual innovation event once a year. The chip giant presents its new technologies there. This also regularly includes the upcoming processor generations, such as the long-awaited Arrow Lake CPUs. But this year nothing will happen. Because according to an announcement on the event's website, reported by TechRadar, the event, originally scheduled for September 24th and 25th, has been canceled entirely. The next innovation event will not take place until next year.

"After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone our Intel-hosted event, Intel Innovation, to 2025. [...] With our financial results and expectations for the second half of 2024, which are more challenging than previously expected, we are will have to make some tough decisions as we continue to realign our cost structure and assess how we can rebuild a sustainable business for our leadership role in processor technology." - Intel

However, the cancellation of this year's innovation event does not mean that consumers will have to wait until next year for new Intel products. Based on previous reports and statements from Intel itself, it can be assumed that Intel will use smaller events to show its new products. For example, just over a week ago it was announced that the new Lunar Lake processors would be presented to the public at an event shortly before this year's IFA in Berlin on September 3rd.

However, there may still be delays in the market launch of new products. Intel's announcement makes it clear that the company is officially in some kind of crisis mode. At first it struggled for months with unstable 13th and 14th generation CPUs. Recently, the first BIOS updates were finally released to fix the problem. Shortly before this, it was also announced that at least 15,000 employees will be made redundant.

This is part of a plan that also includes the research and development and marketing departments and aims to save about $10 billion. Competitor AMD's launch of Zen 5 chips also increases the pressure on Intel. Just two weeks ago, the new Ryzen 9 9950X set a new Cinebench world record.
