At its annual "Android Show," Google has unveiled its biggest update to its mobile operating system yet: Gemini Intelligence. The update marks a shift from a phone that simply responds to clicks to a proactive assistant that can understand context across your apps.

A personal assistant who shops for you

The heart of Gemini Intelligence is the ability to perform tasks in multiple steps. This means that the AI doesn't just find information, it acts on it. For example, it can read a syllabus list in your Gmail and automatically put the right books in a shopping cart, or plan a group trip based on a photo of a brochure you just took.

Jesper Vangkilde, communications manager for Google in Denmark, describes the significance of the update here:

“This is one of the most fundamental upgrades to Android to date... It enables the phone to become a truly intelligent partner that is on the cutting edge and solves real-world tasks – rather than just organizing information on a screen.”

Design your own tools with prompts

Another new feature is "Create My Widget." Here you can build your own tools for the home screen simply by describing them. For example, if you're a cyclist, you can ask the system to create a widget that only monitors wind speed and rain, so you don't have to open a weather app to check your route.

Gemini Intelligence will roll out during the summer of 2026, initially to the latest Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones.

Googlebook: The successor to the Chromebook

Google has also unveiled a new generation of laptops called the Googlebook. It's a machine built around AI integration:

  • Magic Pointer: A new feature for the mouse that understands the content on the screen. For example, you can point to a sofa in a webshop, and the AI will show you how it looks in your own living room.
  • Mobile integration: You can run your Android apps directly on your laptop without installation and access your files across devices without any latency.
