The new Pixel Watch 3 watches now come in two sizes. We get the same 41 mm size as with the Pixel Watch 2, but it is now also supplemented with a larger version of 45 mm.
Apart from the new size, however, there are no major changes in the design of the Pixel Watch 3, which is confusingly similar to the previous generation from Google.
Apart from the difference in size, the internal hardware in the two Pixel Watch 3 watches is the same. The only other exception here is that with the 45 mm version you also get a slightly larger battery.
Both watches are powered by a dual chip setup with a Qualcomm SW5 100 supplemented by a Cortex M33 coprocessor. It is paired up with 2 GB SDRAM and 32 GB eMMC Flash storage.
The small 41 mm model comes with a 307 mAh battery and Google indicates that you can expect 24 hours of battery life with Always On Display active, while you can get up to 36 hours with the battery saving function turned on.
The watch can be fully charged in about an hour, while 24 minutes in the charger gives you a 50% charge.
The large 45 mm model comes with a 420 mAh battery and here Google states that we can expect approx. same battery times as the small version. So 24 hours of battery life with Always On Display active, while you can get up to 36 hours with the battery saving function switched on.
Here it takes about 80 minutes to fully charge the watch, while 50% can be done in about 28 minutes in the charger.
The screen on both watches is a 320 ppi Actua LTPO OLED screen with a maximum brightness of 2000 nits. The screen can go all the way down to 1 nits minimum brightness with Always On Display activated and has a responsive refresh rate of 1-60 Hz.
With over 16% narrower bezels, it has a larger active screen area compared to the Pixel Watch 2 – over 10% more screen on the 41mm watch and 40% more on the 45mm watch. It has now become easier to read your messages, navigate with Maps and see your metrics during training.
The screen is placed under customized 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and is IP68 certified and can handle up to 5 atmospheres. So you should be able to handle most everyday and fitness challenges with the Pixel Watch 3.
Both sizes are available with an aluminum case in Matte Black with an Obsidian strap or in Polished Silver with a Porcelain strap. The 45mm model is also available in Matte Hazel with a matching Hazel strap, while the 41mm model is available in Champagne Gold with a Hazel strap or in Polished Silver with a Rose Quartz strap.
There's also a selection of Pixel Watch accessories in different styles, colors and materials, so you can easily transition from the gym to a night out.
If you dive into it, there are no major updates to the hardware in the Google Pixel Watch 3. Many of the new developers and additions must be found in the software. It is precisely a place where Google has historically been really good at optimizing.
With new Fitbit functions, Google has aimed to make the Pixel Watch 3 the perfect training companion.
Pixel Watch 3 introduces a comprehensive running experience designed to help you plan, perform and improve your running training. Create different running routines – include timed warm-ups and cool-downs, and set targets for pace, heart rate, times and distances. You can also add interval training with repetitions. When you perform your saved routines, you get real-time guidance directly on the watch via audio and haptic signals. Be alerted if you deviate from your target pace, exceed your heart rate limit, or when it's time to start a sprint or cool down. With the latest update, media management is now integrated directly into your workout, so you can adjust the volume or change songs without slowing down.
During the run, Pixel Watch 3 tracks your form using an advanced motion sensor and machine learning, giving you a detailed overview of your cadence, stride length, vertical fluctuations and more to improve your running results. The new running dashboard in the Fitbit app shows your weekly mileage, records, detailed analysis of your running training and more, so you can track your progress and stay motivated.
Pixel Watch 3 comes with a 6-month Premium subscription that gives you more in-depth insights, running and training recommendations, and exclusive training content from Fitbit Premium coaches.
However, there is also much else to download in the software. We get the most comprehensive Google integration, it's easier than ever for you to keep track of your day with the practical new user experiences such as Nest camera and doorbell streaming, Google TV remote control, offline access to Google Maps and the ability to put calls on hold using Google Assistant, all available on your watch.
